We were proud to contribute to various advocacy and external engagement efforts in 2024. Below are some of our key accomplishments.

Tax resources for members

Throughout 2024, we have continued to support members with a range of helpful tax resources, including a dedicated website with important updates and resources, as well as Tax Time Webinar training, such as the Monthly Tax Update, Monthly Tax Special Topic and Monthly Superannuation/SMSF Update, Year-End Tax Wrap, and NZ Quarterly Tax Update.

Annual Accounting for Sustainability (A4S) Summit

In July 2024, our CEO, Chris Freeland AM, represented CPA Australia at the annual Accounting for Sustainability (A4S) Summit in London. The summit focused on fast-tracking to 2050 and highlighted the crucial role of accountants in achieving a lower carbon future.

CPA Australia remains highly regarded within the A4S community, both with regard to the work we’ve been doing with our own organisational response to climate change, and our commitment to net-zero and the work we continue to do to educate, support and elevate the technical skills and capabilities of our members.

2024 AFAANZ Conference in Auckland

We are proud sponsors of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) Conference, a unique platform for professionals, academics and researchers to share insights, explore innovations, and network with peers from around the region. We were privileged to have had our President & Chair of the Board, Professor Dale Pinto FCPA, and Board Director, Professor Yew Kee HO FCPA, in attendance.

Cooperation agreement with ACFE’s Indonesian Chapter

With Indonesia being an important growth market for CPA Australia, we were pleased to ink a cooperation agreement with the Indonesian Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) in 2024. This agreement marks our mutual commitment to promoting the highest standards of integrity, transparency and accountability in Indonesia. The ongoing focus will be on joint initiatives to support members of both bodies in preventing fraud issues.

Revised Banking Code of Practice

The Australian Bankers Association (ABA) announced a revised Banking Code of Practice that means banks will no longer be allowed to ask accountants to certify whether their small business clients can repay a loan. CPA Australia has been advocating for this change for more than 15 years, and we consider this a significant positive outcome for our Australian practitioner members. This new Code comes in from 28 February 2025, and is applicable to the big banks that are members of the ABA and follow the Code.
