Why should accountants care about ESG? CPA Australia launches series of educational webinars to explain
Content Summary
CPA Australia’s series of webinars designed to inform and upskill accountants on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) concepts and principles starts next week, with the aim of explaining why the profession must take the subject seriously.
The four-part Global ESG Series will educate accountants and finance professionals on the critical and evolving ESG landscape and how it applies to their businesses.
As ESG reporting becomes a key part of financial and corporate accountability, CPA Australia’s Sustainability Lead Patrick Viljoen says accountants will be key players in their organisations.
“Accountants ensure transparency, compliance, and sustainability, so learning ESG principles prepares them for the evolving needs of corporate finance and reporting,” he said.
“We’ve designed this series for accounting and finance professionals keen to enhance their ESG expertise – whether they are new to these concepts or are experienced practitioners looking for deeper insights.
“ESG provides accountants with an opportunity to showcase their knowledge, skills and leadership capabilities as they become even more valued with organisations.”
Accountants wanting to deepen their understanding of ESG, learn the fundamentals of ESG trends and regulations, and develop their practical skills will benefit from the series starting on March 25, Mr Viljoen said.
“Participants will be equipped to drive sustainability initiatives within their organisations, confidently engage in discussions on ESG trends, and champion ethical governance and responsible business practices,” he said.
“It’s important that accountants prioritise their professional development in this emerging and critical area for the profession.”
Participants will learn how to integrate ESG frameworks into practice including managing climate risks, addressing biodiversity impacts, and fostering social responsibility.
The first session later this month will explore why ESG matters to the accounting profession, highlighting the growing importance of ESG in driving corporate strategy, compliance, and sustainability.
