CPA Australia has a Member Pathway Agreement (MPA) with PICPA.
Pathway to CPA membership
The following steps demonstrate the pathway to Associate CPA membership for full members of PICPA under the conditions of the current MPA.
Step 1: Determine your eligibility
You may be eligible to apply for Associate CPA Australia membership if one of the following applies to you:
Pathway 1
Professionals with 10 years of work experience or more who:
- hold a university degree recognised by the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment as being at least equivalent to Australian bachelor degree level
- have 10 years’ relevant work experience with a minimum of five cumulative years in a senior role at the time of application. This role must be at managerial level, demonstrating senior decision making within an organisation. Please outline this experience on your CV and submit it with your application, and
- have successfully completed the exams set and assessed by the Board of Accountancy in the Philippines (CPA Licensure Exams), or
have successfully completed the CPA Licensure Exams and
- is a member of PICPA
- is of good standing and not currently subject to any disciplinary sanctions or investigations
- meets any additional admission requirements, including but not limited to, language proficiency, evidence of good character and payment of fees, as imposed by CPA Australia on application for membership or under law.
Pathway 2
Professionals with less than 10 years of work experience who:
- hold a university degree recognised by the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment as being at least equivalent to Australian bachelor degree level
and
- have successfully completed the exams set and assessed by the Board of Accountancy in the Philippines (CPA Licensure Exams), or
have successfully completed the CPA Licensure Exams and
- is a member of PICPA
- is of good standing and not currently subject to any disciplinary sanctions or investigations
- meets any additional admission requirements, including but not limited to, language proficiency, evidence of good character and payment of fees, as imposed by CPA Australia on application for membership or under law.
Work experience evidence
Some of our professional body pathways require evidence of professional work experience.
Step 2: Apply
Complete our online application and submit with the required documentation, including your application and membership fee.
In your application, nominate PICPA as the professional body with whom you studied and hold membership.
Step 3: Verification and outcome of your application
Your application will take approximately 10 to 15 working days to verify. We will send you an email advising you of your assessment outcome.
Step 4: Advance to CPA status
Once you become an Associate member of CPA Australia, you must successfully complete the following subjects of the CPA Program according to your verified entry pathway.
Pathway 1
Professionals with at least 10 years of work experience
Pathway 2
Professionals with less than 10 years of work experience
- Ethics and Governance
- Strategic Management Accounting
- Financial Reporting
- Global Strategy and Leadership
- Two elective subjects in the CPA Program
- CPA Australia's Your Experience requirement
When complete, you will advance to CPA status, receive a CPA certificate and will then be able to use the letters CPA after your name.
