President's message
The accounting and finance profession and our broader society are facing a series of global economic and geo-political challenges, with pressure on energy supplies, labour shortages contributing to supply chain constraints, causing inflation and rising interest rates. In addition, severe flooding in New South Wales and a surge in COVID-19 infections are impacting communities and businesses alike. As your professional body, CPA Australia is here to support you with information and resources to help you and your clients navigate the shifting business landscape, including the Disaster Recovery tools and resources and the COVID-19 support hub.
CPA Australia strategy webinars
One of CPA Australia’s main priorities this year is developing the next organisational strategy that has been co-designed with members and employees. You can join CEO Andrew Hunter in a one-hour webinar next week for a preview of this strategy, where you’ll also have an opportunity to ask questions and offer feedback ahead of the final board approval in late September. There are two sessions which will be held on Tuesday 2 August at 1.00pm (AEST) and 7.30pm (AEST). For more details and to register to attend one of the webinars, visit the strategy webpage.
ESG initiatives
In line with CPA Australia’s vision of, ‘Partnering with members to prepare for today and tomorrow in a globally connected world,’ the Board has approved the ESG Strategy and support the approach being taken to develop our Net Zero Roadmap. ESG issues shape how business is conducted, regulated, measured, reported and assured. We believe sound management of ESG issues is critical to how businesses create sustainable value. The accounting profession occupies a privileged position in the global economy. As trusted advisers, accountants are privy to deep insights about ESG risks and opportunities, and this gives rise to a responsibility to promote awareness and management of ESG issues. We look forward to sharing our ESG Strategy and Roadmap to Net Zero in the near future.
CPA Australia 2021 Integrated Report recognised
The Board is proud to announce that CPA Australia’s 2021 Integrated Report has been awarded Integrated Report of the Year in the Special Awards category at the 2022 Australasian Reporting Awards. This is the third consecutive year CPA Australia has been a finalist in this award, having also won it in 2020 for our 2019 Integrated Report. This pattern of excellence is recognition that CPA Australia is leading the way in Integrated Reporting in Australia and New Zealand and shows the value we are delivering to members over time.
Tax time campaign
CPA Australia is providing comprehensive tax time coverage to coincide with the end of the financial year. The tax time campaign provides members with the information and resources they need to support businesses and clients, while educating the public about tax considerations and the value of seeing a registered tax agent. Featuring our Tax Tips 2022 Guide, Tax Time webinars and feature articles in INTHEBLACK and CPA Tax News, we also received widespread media coverage in Australia of our "Yeah, nah: Six things you can't claim this tax time" media release – in a range of print, television and radio outlets, including on Channel 7’s Weekend Sunrise program.
Virtual conferences – Public Practice and CPA Congress
Two of CPA Australia’s virtual conferences are coming up with the Public Practice Virtual Conference to be held on Thursday 18 August, and CPA Virtual Congress from Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 October. These interactive online events offer valuable professional development opportunities and practical learning outcomes. You’ll hear from an impressive line-up of local and international presenters, including CPA Australia members, industry experts and renowned keynote speakers. Visit the Public Practice Virtual Conference and CPA Congress webpages for more details and to register.
