To advance to CPA status you need to complete the CPA Program education component, hold a degree qualification and complete Your Experience.
Completing Your Experience
If you can demonstrate the time and relevant skills, you can complete Your Experience by following a three-step process:
- Gain your experience.
- Get your experience signed-off by a CPA, FCPA or member of another IFAC body.
- Verify your experience with CPA Australia.

Extension of time to complete the CPA Program
If you are unable to complete the CPA Program by your advancement deadline, you can apply for an extension of time. CPA Australia assesses requests on an individual basis, not all applications will be granted, but your circumstances will be taken into consideration when extending a deadline. Contact your nearest CPA Australia office if you have any questions.
If you joined CPA Australia between 1 January 2004 and 29 June 2007:
- you must advance to CPA status within eight years of your admission as an Associate member
If you joined CPA Australia after 30 June 2007:
you must advance to CPA status within six years of your admission as an Associate member
