President's message
I’d first like to acknowledge the serious challenges confronting us in various parts of the world right now. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect all of us, we’ve seen severe floods in Malaysia and on the east coast of Australia, a record-breaking heatwave in Western Australia and the terrible conflict taking place in Ukraine. My thoughts are with members and their communities affected by these events. Accountants play a vital role in assisting their clients and communities during these periods and as your professional body, CPA Australia is here to support you. We have a range of resources available to members, including our Disaster Recovery Toolkit that is designed to assist small businesses impacted by disaster to map out a considered approach to recovery
Developing the next strategy
We’re developing the next organisational strategy for CPA Australia and we invite you to be part of the process. As members, you know best what you want from your professional body, so we encourage you to join your peers for an interactive online workshop and have your say in helping to shape the future direction of CPA Australia and the profession. The workshops are running throughout April and you can register online at our website.
AGM – refreshing the constitution
At this year’s AGM on the 11th of May, you’ll have the chance to vote on proposed changes to CPA Australia’s constitution. The proposed changes are consistent with those approved by members in 2018 and 2019 and commitments we have previously made to members. This won’t change the main tenets of the constitution, yet creates a simpler version with clear, contemporary language that is easier to understand and takes into account changes to the Corporations Act. Details of the proposed changes will be set out in the Notice of Meeting that will be available ahead of the AGM.
We encourage you to attend the AGM in person or to watch the live webcast. Over the past few years, we’ve progressively increased the use of technology so that as many members as possible can participate in the AGM. This year, in line with the changes to the Corporations Act, members online are taken as present at the meeting and form part of the quorum, so can vote online during the meeting. Members attending online will also be able to ask questions by phone or text during the meeting. For full details visit the AGM webpage.
