CPA Australia launches toolkits to support Indonesian MSMEs to scale up
Leading professional accounting body CPA Australia has launched guidance material in Indonesia for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) to support them to thrive and grow.
The toolkit, Panduan Pengelolaan UMKM, is intended to support the Indonesian government’s efforts to improve the financial literacy of MSME, especially micro businesses. Improving financial literacy is critical to helping such businesses to scale up.
It contains tips for MSME in areas like improving their operations, risk management, governance, and business sustainability.
The toolkit follows on from CPA Australia’s annual Asia-Pacific Small Business Survey, which showed that Indonesian small businesses are some of the fastest growing in the region, although there are opportunities for improvement.
Priya Terumalay, Regional Head for CPA Australia in Southeast Asia, said the survey results show continued strong growth momentum in Indonesia over the last two years reflecting confidence in the business and the economy.
“With the survey data suggesting the possibility of several local small businesses scaling up to become large, successful global businesses over the next few years, the accounting profession needs to support capacity building as trusted partners and advisers.”
“This toolkit provides the essential tools and guidance to support MSME to build business resilience and improve operational efficiency.”
Dr Adi Budiarso, Director, Financial Sector Policy Center, Fiscal Policy Agency, The Ministry of Finance, Republic of Indonesia added the importance of MSMEs in supporting Indonesia’s economic growth with the support of professionals such as accountants.
"MSMEs are the backbone of Indonesia's economy, contributing over 60 per cent of GDP and employing 97 per cent of the workforce. With over 64 million MSMEs in 2023, they are vital for economic stability and inclusive development. To unlock their full potential as drivers of economic transformation, we must support them with the right policies, financial access, digitalisation, and sustainable practices.”
"CPA Australia's Panduan Pengelolaan UMKM is a commendable effort to provide MSMEs with valuable guidance to enhance their competitiveness."
The toolkit was launched at the Member Recognition Ceremony to recognise CPA Australia members who have advanced to CPA status after successfully completing the CPA Program and members who have advanced to fellow status and senior members of 10 to 30 years of membership.
