On 14 September 2011 the Disciplinary Tribunal found Ms Sonya Causer breached Article 39(a)(ii)G of the Constitution in that on twenty four occasions she “pleaded guilty to, or been found guilty of(with or without conviction), any offence (criminal or otherwise, but excluding any offence relating to traffic infringement) before any Court...” in respect of being found guilty in the Supreme Court of Victoria of twenty four counts of breaching section 74 of the Crimes Act 1958 (Vic).
The Court found that from around July 2007 to July 2009 Ms Causer had stolen from Clive Peeters approximately $19,365 million.
Ms Causer was sentenced by the Court to 8 years imprisonment effective 19 August 2010 with a non-parole period expiring of five years
Penalties and Costs
The Disciplinary Tribunal imposed the following penalties and costs:
- forfeiture of Membership
- not eligible for readmission for thirty years,
- a fine of $100,000, and
- costs of $464.
Should Ms Causer make application for readmission at the expiration of the thirty year period, conditions of readmission are that:
- she first pay the fine and costs referred to above, and,
- first complete the CPA Program (or its equivalent) as a non member
