Public practice learning

CPA Australia members who wish to establish themselves in public practice, whether within or outside Australia, can undertake studies with CPA Australia to develop their non-technical skills such as business planning, risk management and practice development.

There are different requirements depending on your location and intended earnings.

Public Practice Certificate

CPA Australia members in Australia or New Zealand who intend to earn more than $25,000 gross fees per annum from the provision of public accounting services must obtain a Public Practice Certificate.

To obtain a Public Practice Certificate, members must complete the Public Practice Program, which has been developed to help members establish themselves in public practice. This program comprises the Practice Management distance learning program and the Public Practice Program Residential.

Practice Management program enrolment

Enrolment in the Practice Management distance learning program includes automatic enrolment in the exam held in the same semester. To enrol in this program you must be a CPA or FCPA.

CPA Australia members in Australia or New Zealand who do not intend to earn more than $25,000 gross fees per annum from the provision of public accounting services can obtain a Limited Practice Certificate.

To obtain a Limited Practice Certificate, members must complete the Practice Management distance learning program, which has been developed to help members establish themselves in public practice.

Offering public accounting services outside Australia or New Zealand

CPA Australia does not regulate members working in public practice outside Australia or New Zealand. CPA Australia members who are interested in public practice and are based outside Australia or New Zealand may enrol in the Practice Management distance learning program.

Enrolment includes introductory information on the requirements to practise as an accountant in Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore.
