The exam for the Practice Management distance learning program is of three hours duration plus 15 minutes reading time. The exam is open book and based on the whole program, including the study guide and readings. You will be examined on all materials unless otherwise stated.
The exam consists of multiple-choice questions and questions which require written answers. Marks are not deducted for incorrect answers.
As a guide, multiple-choice questions comprise approximately 35 per cent of the exam and written response questions comprise approximately 65 per cent. Specific information about the structure of the exam is enclosed with the exam notification letter that you will receive prior to the exam.
Enrolment in the Practice Management program includes automatic enrolment in the exam conducted in the semester of enrolment, with the exception of enrolments for reference purposes.
Exam dates
The exam is held at the end of the semester. Scheduled exam dates are listed in the important dates.
Alternative exam dates are not available due to the secure nature of the exam process and the large number of exams that are conducted each semester. If the advertised date is unsuitable, you should delay your enrolment to a future semester. If your personal circumstances change after you have enrolled due to circumstances such as a medical ailment, business trip, heavy workload, clash with another exam, or misreading the exam information supplied, you may be eligible to defer the exam, cancel your enrolment, or sit the exam and apply for special consideration. See Changing your Practice Management exam arrangements for further information.
Notification of exam location and time
During the semester, a personalised exam notification letter will be mailed to you to confirm the location and time of the exam. Enclosed with the letter is information on exam regulations and the structure of the exam paper. You should receive your exam notification letter by the date shown in important dates. If notification is not received by the appropriate date, contact the Business Services Group, Deakin University.
Exam venues are liable to change from semester to semester, so it is vital that you check your exam notification letter for details of your current semester exam venue. If you receive written confirmation of an exam deferral or cancellation of enrolment, you should disregard the exam details included in the exam notification letter.
Exam results
You can pre-register to receive your result by SMS on the result release day and all candidates will be assigned a PIN to access their results on the internet on the same day. See important dates for the result release date.
Before the final exam results are announced, you will receive a letter advising how to access your result. If you have not received these instructions by the date shown in important dates, please contact the Business Services Group at Deakin University.
You will receive an official CPA Australia printed results transcript, which is mailed to all candidates after SMS and internet result release. If you do not receive a printed results transcript within two weeks after the advertised mailing date, you should contact your divisional office.
Results for the Practice Management exam are 'pass', 'fail', 'did not sit', or 'deferred'. One week after results are released online, candidates have online access to a personal analysis letter. The personal analysis letter reviews exam results by module. This may help you know where to focus your studies if you attempt the program again.
Exam marks are not released and the mark range for the pass grade is not disclosed.
If you fail the exam, do not attend the exam or are not granted an exam deferral by CPA Australia, you must re-enrol and pay the full fee to enrol in the program again.
