The competitive advantage
At the very heart of CPA Australia’s learning model sits the CPA Program — a rigorous, globally-competitive and fully-integrated education and experience program that goes well beyond world-class ethical and professional standards.
The CPA Program provides your employees the opportunity to contribute to your organisation’s success through the application of professional accounting skills. With a strategic focus on global business issues, the CPA Program provides the technical expertise today, to create your strategic business leaders of tomorrow.
There are two pathways into the CPA program. Those with a traditional accounting background or an accounting degree will enter directly into the professional level of the program. For those whose background is not traditionally accounting, the foundation level exams have been developed to ensure that they are given the means and solid grounding to undertake the professional level of the CPA Program.
By completing the assessment your staff will be able to see where they fit into the
CPA Program.
One of the key differentiators of the CPA program is the practical experience requirement. This key feature of the CPA program ensures your employees develop as well-rounded professionals, possessing leadership and personal effectiveness skills, as well as guaranteeing they are highly-competent in technical accounting and business operations.

There are a lot of questions about the best way to complete the
practical experience requirement. Essentially, there are three methods designed to suit the different needs of candidates:
- employees with six months’ or more professional work experience in a relevant role should be encouraged to apply for recognition of demonstrated experience and skills to meet their practical experience requirement
- Recognised Employer Partners will already have committed to the
practical experience requirements, so your employees completing the CPA Program will already satisfy their requirements for the duration of their employment with you - if you are not involved with the Recognised Employer Program, you should consider a structured mentored relationship with your employees as an ideal method – mentoring is an effective tool to ensure that your staff gain the key skills they need to develop in your organisation, and is a valuable way to identify future career opportunities for top talent
